Panamerican Sonic Prayers is the newest album from the Canadian doom masters Anunnaki and Chino Burga of Lima Peru. The two sides are cohesive; Chino Burga and Anunnaki share much in common with their contributions to this meditative album. Both bands create krautrock inspired compositions with droning tones that are in constant motion each presenting a 20 minutes song.
Chino Burga plays ‘Quien Como Dios’, the rich textured drones are space rock ambience with movement and constant tension. The feedback swells and reverberate into the infinite distance. The sonic spaces created in ‘Quien Como Dios’ are astral visions with breathing sonic textures. Inspirations from early electronic synthesizer music and progressive psychedelic rock including Tangerine Dream, Cluster and Klaus Schultz. There is a distinctive vintage space rock sound that is certain to create a warm fuzzy glowing sound to unlock the layers of consciousness.
Chino Burga is a member of the bands Culto Al Qondor, 3AM and La Ira De Dios. His previous album Invokaciones from 2021 established Chino Burga’s approach to music. Invokaciones was recorded in single takes with no overdubs. The concept is capturing a moment bringing the music in its raw creative form. A theme carries between Invokaciones and Panamerican Sonic Prayers in both titles there is a reference to prayers and invocations suggestions that the music comes from a deep place.
Anunnaki is a heavy stoner doom band with two members, Dave Reed of Moths and Locust and Arlen Thompson of Wolf Parade. Their previous album Martyr Of Alexandria was fast heavy with pummeling beats and raging distortion and wah guitar at screams like an eagle. Anunnaki oscillates between loud heavy experimental metal and modular synth ambience with early space rock tones. Panamerican Sonic Prayers is the first album from Anunnaki where they focus exclusively on ambient space. The guitar and bass has heavy echo reaching deep in the cosmos. Modular synth replicates the sound of extraterrestrial technology droning and oscillating in clear brilliant wave forms.
