Saturnia Stranded In The Green

Saturnia Stranded In The Green is a psychedelic album with sitars, gongs, smooth vocal harmonies and a organic space rock sound. The driving bass and synth blend ride atop of the percussive waves created by energized and dynamic drumming that has a motorik tribal beat. The vocals are a highlight with a 60s vibe and contemporary harmonies to add color. The album is truly psychedelic with influences from contemporary psych rock and heavy space rock combined with a 60s psychedelic rock and acid folk.

The music on Stranded In The Green is groove oriented with a stoney slow burn feel that has unqiue and sci-fi use of synth and echo, plotting vocals that stay in an acid folk vibe. They employ reverse delays frequently giving the album an otherworldly feel that literally warps time. This album evokes psychedelic states of consciousness in its sounds. The trip is smooth and soothing with wall melting background sounds and steady rhythm. The guitars are layered in vintage warm echo and thrives in clean and lightly overdriven tones. The bass lines bring a lot fo interest and dynamic to the music with a deep driving tone that fills out the low end and gives the music its melodic foundations. There are spaced out sections that are farly mellow and atmospheric where the bass takes charge and steers the ship into space rock territory.

Saturnia Stranded In The Green is the 8th album from this innovative Portugese band. Stranded In The Green is the follow-up to the 2018 album The Seance Tapes. Saturnia released their debut album in 2001 titled, The Glitter Odd. This latest release is the first with Sulatron Records they spent many year releasing with Elektrohasch Schallplatten. Sulatron is one of my favorite psychedelic rock labels and it is located in Germany. This band started as a outlet for Luis Simões. He started as a solo artist and has been the driving force behind Saturnia as the main performer and songwriter. The last 20 years he has been the band leader and the creative genius behind the music. This band has been improving and developing an organic acid folk psilocybin musical pallet.

Luis Simões is the founder and leader of the band and on this album he performs: Vocals, guitars, sitar, tampura, bass, bass pedals, gong, organs, synthesizer, Rhodes piano, Mellotron, chimes and drums. He is joined by Ana Vitorino: Spoken word on “Pan Arrives” And “Winga” as well as Djembe on “Keep it Long“. Stranded In The Green was recorded between 2018 and summer 2020 at Lagoa do Calvo. Mixed by Luis Simões & Mastered by Ricardo Bravo. Cover art by Luis Simões.

Saturnia Stranded In The Green is a great album for people who like acid folk and mellow space rock with world instrumentation. The music is highly creative and enjoyable. The smooth arc of the album guides the listener into a world of painted landscapes and incense smoke rings. I picture a hazy smoke filled room with vintage furniture, vintage instruments and sculpture and paintings of spirit beings from all over the Earth. The album has a Earthly and primal quality that evokes the power of the unseen forces behind the natural world. This is great for hazy afternoons, mellow mornings and psychedelic journeys into the earthly planes.
