Acid Dad Take it From The Dead

Acid Dad Take it From The Dead is the latest from this young and talented band. They take the best parts of 90s alternative rock, psychedelic garage rock, and slap on a bit of Sonic Youth vibes. The guitar playing is a joy to listen to with interweaving guitar lines and doubled leads. The vocals are catchy and melodic while being disinterested and filled with attitude. The songs make unique twists and turn that add complexity to the transitions and overall compositions.

Take it from The Dead lyrically works with themes of internal dialogue, feelings, and angst. Musings about being a musician who cannot afford to go see their favorite bands at shows hit home for many young artists. The lyrics are both poetic and symbolic as well as explicit and transparent. This combination of forward expression and artistic metaphor makes for interesting songs that can be interpreted on multiple levels.

Acid Dad is a 4 piece band and this is just their second full length album. They’re from Brooklyn ,New York and released their first self-titled album in 2018. This band has major potential their skill at songwritting, strong live performances and progress from just two underground releases is impressive in a genre that is often under appreciated. They tap into sounds from the 80s, 90s 60s and today in ways others do not. Acid Dad has emabrked on full US tours and reeased a great live album from Levitation Sessions in 2021 the shows off how skilled the band is on stage. We have a review for the Levitation Sessions album up on The Psych Rock where I sing their praises.

The latest album is front loaded with many of my favorite tracks on the album happening in the first half. That first half of the album is more song based with a verse chorus approach later on they explore other sounds and tones that are more psychedelic and garage rock. Surprisingly, I personally enjoy the songs earlier on the album because they are clever, well done and highly inspired. Normally I would be more excited about the psyched out second half but they do a great job with their catchier songs and I cant seem to get enough.

Acid Dad Take it From The Dead is a really good album and deserves your attention. This band is paving a path toward something great in the future and these first few albums will stand up to the test of time.

Buy at the Links above you will not be disappointed.

About The Psych Rock

The Psych Rock is a page dedicated to underground music that rocks, folks, dooms and drones. I am always writing about bands that get much less attention then their level of skill or creativity deserves. I find these bands or they find me and we work together to get the word out about their music. This is an act of charity on my part but selfishly it helps me keep all my favorite new albums compiled in one spot because sometimes the record shelf is a bit too expansive to remember which of my latest buys I should listen to.

If you would like to reach me to introduce your band head to the contact section and send me a message. I acknowledge that it has been a little quite around The Psych Rock the last month or so but I am looking to get back into the saddle and continue with regular updates. That said I received many emails from many bands and labels during that time and I apologize for not having time to dive into your correspondences.

If you would like to support the efforts here send me physical copies of your music or buy music from my band Black Satori (links Below) or share my reviews on social media. Pro Tip to avoid ads use brave browser its one of the best browsers anyway so might as well.
