Acid Dad is from New York and they play alternative psychedelic garage rock. Their guitar riffs are catchy and the melodies in their songs give that nostalgic 90s vibe at the same time as it feels contemporary. They add in plenty of psyched out sounds.
Acid Dad released their first album in 2018 and the follow-up Take It From The Dead is slated to be released on July 16th 2021. The band has come a long way from their first album. Levitation Session Recording displays the bands skill. The songs are well written and the instruments work together with fluidity and ease. The vocals have a Sonic Youth vibe with attitude and Velvet Underground melodies.
The guitar playing is interactive as the two players build the songs together. The guitars each have their own distinct tone and box of effects but blend together beautifully. The guitars are just as expressive as the vocals. The songs have a sense of deep feeling and a honest sound.
Acid Dad has a psychedelic sound that stretch’s between 90s late 80s sounds and stonier psychedelic rock . “Living With A Creature” has a kruatrock feel with some acid mothers temple style rhythm guitar lines. The song is one of their heavier pieces on the album and after moves into a droning synth and mellotron flute synth. This song has in a tripped out vibe that will take you places.
The vocal harmonies and vocal backing adds so much to these songs. The clear perfect harmonies are well produced with clarity and failed in reverb. The band spends much of its time in lyrical passages and the guitars build and fall back to open space for the vocals to take front stage.
Acid Dad has released a great album. The Levitation Sessions are so well recorded and mixed that the music sounds like a studio album. It is in fact a studio album and video session. This new kind of live performance has become much more popular during the pandemic when live concerts ere cancelled for over a year. These Sessions offer something different and allow bands to release new music during a time when recording studios were all closed.
This Acid Dad album shows how good these emerging musicians are. They play the songs to perfection and give the audience a great mix of songs to enjoy. This album comes highly recommended and builds hype for their upcoming new album.
