Nest Egg’s sophomore release ‘Nothingness Is Not A Curse’ is filled with steady brooding krautrock rhythms, droning organ, echoing vocals, and rocking guitars placing them clearly in the psych-rock genre. They have shared the stage with bands like Thee Oh Sees and Brain Jones Town Massacre and A Place To Bury Strangers.

’Long Night Outside’ is the first single, it opens with staccato strumming and a bumping dark kraut bass line. The vocals are saturated in reverb and echo with a disinterested presentation that is more punk than pop. The song builds momentum until an all-out signal destroyed guitar noise solo crashes to the end in electronic bliss.

The songs build momentum as they progress with unpredictable section changes and innovative use of effects. The guitars go from clean and tight to broken and distorted. At times the guitar sounds like it may have been set on fire with molten distortion and feedback. The organs swirl in ambient textures throughout much of the album while the bass keeps the cosmic vibes jamming. The interplay of the guitar and drums has a danceable feel which drives the krautrock dynamic of the songs.

Nest Egg released their debut ‘Respectable’ in 2015. They have signed with UK Psych-Rock music label Fuzz Club and reside in Ashville North Carolina, USA.

Talking of the new album, the band explains: “We tracked ‘Nothingness Is Not A Curse’ mostly back in 2016 and finished it up last year, we’re really excited to have it coming out on Fuzz Club. The songs were mostly written a couple of years ago and the content is just a conglomeration of everything from that time. It ranges from songs about spending a lot of time in the outdoors to songs about air travel or getting rid of scummy people in your life.” -Quote from Fuzz Club

Their Spring 2018 USA tour will light up audiences April through May. Their live set at Hopscotch Music Festival in Raleigh, North Carolina was met with enthusiastic online reviews NYCtaper.com proclaimed them his favorite new band after experiencing their indescribable live performance. Be sure to check them out if they come to your town.

Nest Egg’s ‘Nothingness Is Not A Curse’ is an exciting album with captivating sonic textures and tranced out progressions which are true to contemporary psych-rock and vintage krautrock. The songs are unpredictable and lead the listener into unexpected territory.
