Dhidalah Sensoria

Dhidalah Sensoria is a farout space rock album that sends listeners into the stratosphere. The guitars work in tandem to develop outstanding guitar solos that fill the instrumental album with endless high energy expressiveness. They demonstrate the power of the kraut style slow build over rhythmic loops with freely rocking guitars. They relish in distorted tones with echo, reverb and modulation. The band as a whole is tight and there is no faulting the performance. The quality of the recording has good sound and will rip through your speakers at high volume. The guitar tones are a highlight on the album and these great tones from start to finish.

Sensoria is the second album from Dhidalah their debut Threshold ,released in 2019 is an excellent space rock album with psychedelic and acid rock. There has been evolution between the two albums with Sensoria having better sound quality richer guitar tones and focused intention. The band has fully embraced their sound and what makes them unique in the genre. Both albums were released through GuruGuruBrain, a label started by members of Kikagaku Moyo that is dedicated to giving a platform to underground Asian space rock, psychedelic rock, folk and experimental music.

Dhidalah hails from the Japanese underground rock scene in Tokyo. The underground psychedelic rock scene there is experimental, heavy, fast, wild, and free to improvise and push the envelope. Other bands from the region include Acid Mothers Temple, Mainliner, Kikagaku Moyo, Boris and more. They formed in 2013 and focus on space rock, stoner, doom and krautrock. The name Dhidalah is the legendary mythical Giant Gods who created mountains, lakes, streams and rivers. Fitting name for a band whose tumultuous energy harnesses the power of creative forces.

The opening song on Sensoria Soma’ starts with calm modulated guitars creating a spacey atmosphere. The music builds with free lead lines until culminating in echoing distortion and wah-wah guitar sounds that become abstract and experimental. This opener is a launch from the Earth into orbit. What follows is engaging, exciting and well played space rock that will delight.

Sensoria has four tracks, three on the A side and one 20 minute epic song ‘Black Shrine’ on the B side. The band can jam and create long songs with ease. Their style is much more than choosing a key and jamming they are progressive changing keys, shifting tempos, transitioning through sections that build and wind down. The album shows their ability to ramp up to the next level of craziness with some songs pushing toward the freakout nature of Acid Mothers Temple.

Sensoria is not to be overlooked. Dhihalah is on the frontier of stoney space rock and Sensoria could easily become an underground niche cult classic.
