Herbcraft Trash Heap

7.5 / 10 Experimental Lo-Fi Psych

Herbcraft Trash Heap was released on October 16th 202 on Cardinal Fuzz (Europe) and Flower Room Records (USA). The selection of formats in interesting with multiple colors of vinyl and packages with up to 4 limited edition cassettes are included.

Herbcraft Trash Heap is a psychedelic rock album with lo-fi sounds and experimental compositions. The freedom expressed in the music and its creative process allows anything to happen. Each song seems to explore new territories and defy expectations. The tendency toward experimentation is exciting.

Herbcraft began in 2012 and released their first album on Woodist titled, The Astral Body Electric. They are based in Portland, Maine and have released several albums focusing on cassettes to match their DIY aesthetic.

Herbcraft Trash Heap is an enjoyable set of songs that go into avant-noise folk to blazing fuzz garage rock. The music sounds like the underground experimental music of the early 2000s with home recorded guitars, lo-fi vocals and noise effects. They can be compared to bands like Woods, Racoo-oo-oon , with shades of Velvet Underground and krautrock. The free form psychedelic guitar lines are a highlight on the album. The drums sound distant the bass guitar sits back in the mix and won’t rattle the walls.

Herbcraft Trash Heap overall is a psychedelic jamboree that goes there and back again. The album has new songs from 2020 as well as older tracks from their early days of 2013. Their lo-fi sound is charming and warm toned with an emphasis on getting weird and freely jamming.
