BUSHPILOT 23 is krautrock with staccato pushed vocals post-punk influenced rhythms and guitars. The music is raw groove oriented with retro 70s kraut tone. The rhythm section is motorik and the guitars accent the off beat and create a almost funky mix. The vocals are highly influenced by the style of Damo Suzuki of CAN with a free avant-rock sound.
BUSHPILOT 23 is an awesome album and it distinguishes itself from much of the genre with clearer tones, a more stripped down approach that focuses on the instruments and performance rather than layers of wild effects.
The music has a strong forward momentum and inspired rhythms. It establishes a solid groove that evolves and changes with impeccable timing. The two guitars play off each other wonderfully with interlocking rhythms and a staccato tight attack. In the krautrock scene the guitars have become inundated with reverb and echoes but these guys keep it tight and fairly dry focusing on the actual playing style and tight rhythm.

BUSHPILOT is from Leeds, England and originally gigged and recorded from 1993 – 1996 however their album was never released. The band went on a long long hiatus and reformed in 2019 and has released 3 albums in that time. 23 is the most recent release but keep your eyes peeled more more articles about this bands albums. Their first album was live and released in 2019 on limited edition cassette their first studio album was released in early 2020 titled, Already followed up 6 months later by 23.

BUSHPILOT 23 will appeal to fans of CAN and 70s krautrock. They have no synth so they do not get into the space rock sounds they are true post-punk styled krautrock with something special to offer. I really like the vintage tones and the stripped down instruments. Their sound is surprisingly mellow for all the complexities happening. They have a restraint that creates tension and a more open sonic atmosphere. The unique approach to motorik beat and rhythm is a highlight on the album. Their sound is very balanced and each instrument comes through the mix evenly. The sound quality is very good and the album is a high quality production.
Be sure to listen to this album when you are either looking to dance around in weird undulating rhythms or rock out 70s kraut style.
