Only Lovers Left Alive Soundtrack is a classic film soundtrack that combines psychedelic fuzz feedback rock with neo-classic lute. The music sounds both dark, modern and ancient. The soundtrack features SQÜRL and Jozaef Van Wissem as well as Yasmine Hamdam. The movie is a philosophical meditative vampire film following a vampire who is a creative genius and has lived for hundreds of years. Directed by Jim Jarmusch and staring Tilda Swinton, Tom Hiddleston and Mia Wasilowska.
Only Lovers Left Alive explores loneliness, isolation and creative and intellectual genius. The two staring vampires describe humans as zombies and suffer from the fact that human blood is no longer clean threatening the well-being of vampires and making it harder to find good blood. They don’t kill instead they pickup blood from connections with in hospitals. The style of the film has one of the most incredible underground rock aesthetics. The lead vampire is a rocker and the opening song on the soundtrack “Streets Of Detroit” is cast as one of his songs. The guitars and instruments from the soundtrack make appearances in the film.
The music in the film is perfect and matches the imagery wonderfully. The band SQÜRL is the project of the film’s director Jim Jarmusch.
Only Lovers Left Alive Soundtrack is moody contemplative, dark, and lysergic. This album is one of my personal favorite soundtracks ever. The original limited edition vinyl sells online for over $100 and until recently the music was not available on streaming. The album is the perfect heady Halloween music and beyond that is it just a great album overall. The sound quality is top notch, the performances are inspired with wonderful nuanced tone and execution. The combination of classical lute from the 1800s along with feedback guitars with pitch shifting and controlled feedback is stunning. The guest musicians add a world flavor to the album and bring the eastern tonality of the lute forward.
Only Lovers Left Alive Soundtrack would be a classic without and incredible film linked with it. The film is a classic and that combined with the soundtrack makes for a feast of imagery and music that is transformative.
