Got a new package from Thrill Jockey Records. Wooden Ships West released in 2011 recorded in San Francisco and Rose City Band self-titled album from 2019. Both bands feature Ripley Johnson on guitar and vocals. West by Wood Shijips is heavy fuzz rock and part of the early more experimental phase of Wooden Shjips. The inner liner has images from the recording of the album. The driving fuzz and krautrock rhythms make for a classic psychedelic rock album. The newest reissue has a colored vinyl with clear and orange splatter.
Rose City Band is the latest project from Ripley Johnson. This album has a laid back folk inspired sound. The smooth guitar work is wonderful as always and the vocals take a stronger role. Perfect music for those summer days.
