M. Caye Castagnetto – Leap Second is freaky psych folk that is hallucinogenic, strangely beautiful and unique. The band is an international affair with members from Lima, Joshua Tree Desert California and London. The songs feature many instruments both conventional and non conventional. The vocals are softly sung often in strange otherworldly tones in harmony.
M. Caye Castagnetto – Leap Second is most closely associated with the freak folk, acid folk and psych folk music of the 2000s with artists like Feathers, Espers, Fursaxa, Cerberus Shoal, Mùm and Six Organs Of Admittance, Animal Collective. Despite some similarities to the aforementioned bands M. Caye Castagnetto goes into all new sonic directions.
Each song is an adventure into a fairy world alive with wonderfully indescribable songs. At times it brings to mind the Acid Folk from Japan with experimental folk pieces from Acid Mothers Temple, Floating Flower and hints of Kikagaku Moyo. There are a variety of vocal techniques use on the album that sound like Björk‘s wild vocal accompaniment with unique vocal stylings from around the globe.
The music is compelling and stunningly unique. They have evolved the strange music of the psych folk scene and created something that is free and untied from tradition.
M. Caye Castagnetto – Leap Second jumps in and out of closely related genres including folk, acid folk, psychedelic tropicallia, krautrock, experimental drone, reggae and 60s psych. They manage to balance these influences on Second Leap. The album plays well as a whole the songs are distinct but flow into one another. The album never becomes uninteresting with diverse instrumentation and wildly creative tonality.

M. Caye Castagnetto – Leap Second gets into my head and transports me into strange otherworldly spaces. The music can be compared to a drug that bewilders and shifts ones perception. It does not use conventionally music as a crutch and is forwardly and unapologetically different. Their drive for new sounds, the unidentifiable instruments and bizarre tonalities are well done and deeply rewarding.
