El Hombre Al Agua – Memories Can Be Injected
El Hombre Al Agua‘s latest album Memories Can Be Injected from kraut-doom-kosmische-psych musician Dave Reed. Reed is involved with the bands Anunnaki, Moths & Locust, Galactic Butterfly and more. El Hombre Al Agua is a solo project for Reed who resides in Nanaimo, British Columbia.
The music in this project is ambient kosmische with retro electronic synths, guitars, and voice overs. The music is centered on sustained droning with ambiance and nuanced layers of sound. The album opens with meditation instructions backed by humming warm tones and mind melting effects in the background. The album carries an intensity overlaid with a meditative atmosphere that feels mind expanding. The album begins with an ominous low frequency drone and a guided meditation letting listeners know that the album is encouraging a mind-set of transcendental inner travels.
Memories can be injected goes to deep places with droning electronics humming, whirling and oscillating. There is a musical drive that keeps the journey moving forward with futuristic sounds and cybortronic effects. Sections of calm transition too dense compositions with tension and unease. The heady music has a unique feeling as if it’s pointing to something powerful that is out of reach and out of sight but humming just below the surface.
El Hombre Al Agua released their first album on NoiseAgonyMayhem Records in 2017 and released five full albums on cassette in 2020 and 2021. Memories Can Be Injected is the next chapter in the concept album Oumuamua Pts 1 & 2 released in 2019. This series of albums feature organic, new age synth and drone in line with the krautrock movement of the 1970s but in a contemporary futurist fashion. Specifically the music is influenced in part by Klaus Schulze, Ash Ra Temple, and vintage meditation records.
The music sounds wonderful with rich tones dense low end and cool electronic instrumentation that has dynamic depth. The album’s hi-fi production is big and bold bringing subtle ambient tones to the surface for variety with-in the drone. The sounds are smooth with a flare of dystopian futurism that shimmers over top of the meditative drone-scape.
El Hombre Al Agua – Memories Can Be Injected is great music for psychedelic journeys, future punk meditations, creative practices and transportive atmospheres. Echodelick Records and the band have done a fantastic job with the press and artwork for a highly inspired album with a great look.
