Amammoth The Fire Above is a dark heavy acid stoner doom album with fuzz worship that will melt your mind. The heavy riffage is laced with wah-wah and heavy psychedelic flourishes. The band pounds with heavy handed fury and the vocals are pushed and shouting. The album opens with the sludgy track “Heal” where the vocals open with the lyrics repeating “Marijuana”. This Sydney band embodies the stoner rock ascetic with a extra heavy approach.
Amammoth The Fire Above rocks at a stoner pace with long tracks that focus on the disparities of society and a resistance to the social and financial elites. They also touch on the sun as the source of life and marijuana, no marijuana without the sun. The lyrics are distinguishable which is unique for this shouted vocal style.
Amammoth is from Sydney, Australia and The Fire Above is the second release from the band and the first full length album. The Fire Above is the follow up to their self-released EP Blackwitch released in 2019. The line up is Scott Fisher on Vocals/Guitars; Scott Wilson on Drums,
Luis Lipovac on Bass/Backing Vocals and Organ on “Shadows” and “Rise.”
This band quickly gained a reputation for its heavy frenzied live performances. They have extreme energy and strive for heavy foreboding, druggy sludge that barrows dirt from hardcore and heavy metal. The Fire Above is their best release to date with quality recording and production. The guitars sound incredible the bass is thick and distorted and the drums hit with weight.
Amammoth The Fire Above is made for those who want something unrelentingly heavy and stoner friendly. They are indeed heavier than most bands in the genre and have an appeal that can cross the various sub-genres with in the heavy psych scene.
Overall, it’s an awesome album that has a lot of unique qualities. They don’t fall into the straight heavy Sabbath worship or the Sleep replication. Amammoth has found its own sound and it rocks really fucking hard and definitely would translate well into a crushing live performance.
