Erik’s Iridescent Tent Is A Psychedelic Freak-Out!

Erik’s Iridescent Tent has released their first EP and its packed with dark exploratory psychedelic rock. Erik’s Iridescent Tent is a liquid light rocket ship that is going to the moon using astral projection technology powered by psychedelic vibrations. This band is willing to go way farout with mind blowing experimentation bound to psychedelic rock riffs and brooding vocals with psyched out organs. The music has echoing baritone vocals with pumping overdriven bass lines, guitar lines layered in fuzzy reverb. The band is topped off with a Farisa organ which oozes classic 60s psychedelia. This music is for fans of early Pink Floyd, Acid Mothers Temple, Osees, Black Satori, Vibravoid and The Black Angels.

Their first single and music video is for the song ‘The Tent’ which makes an entrance with an early Pink Floyd / Black Angels styled intro. The organs and guitars working together riffing out classic psych rock inspired by both the classic rock bands of the 60s but also by contemporary heavy psych, stoner and experimental rock. ‘The Tent’ has an ominous sound with a dark undercurrent as if danger lurks near. The ending of the song becomes instrumental with a distinct in the moment jam. The guitar echoes out with shimmering reverb sustaining long after the notes have expired leaving a modulating backdrop the fades into the distance.

Erik’s Iridescent Tent embraces the experimental with spiraling jams that catch edges of free abstract music with sections of improvisation driven by experimentation with various effects pedals. These effects are pushed to the limit and driven by infinite echoes decaying and modulating with cosmic vibrations. The songs begin with vocals and riffs with driving organ and back beat guitars then at the end the band opens the doorway to psyched out rock.

Erik’s Iridescent Tent is a four member band with Joey Temple on guitars and ‘portal opener’, Mr. Wizard Pipe on bass and vocals, Johnny Joints on Farfisa organ and vocals. The band consists of members from Black Satori, Narco States, and Electric Circus.

Guitarist Joey Temple described the bands beginnings and their philosophical vision for the album and band:

‘The Tent really started in the dead of winter in 2021. Jhonny Joints (Kazaizen & Electric Circus) and I would stay up until sometimes 4 in the morning in my garage just jamming and making noise, really getting far out sometimes. In felt like an experiment in the freedom of expression. Our evenings would often divulge into a drunken haze of philosophical conversation, the meaning of life, music and how those two things are intrinsically connected. We had big dreams, as we wanted to create music that is truly far out psychedelia, with intentions to make our own scene here in Minneapolis, one based on an inclusive community. We wanted to be the catalyst of the spark that from it would arise a renewed interest in psychedelic music here, not just as some band playing music on a stage, but as performance art, and to push the boundaries of what could be experienced at a musical performance…

We were ready to record this first batch of tunes we had been working on, and this last December we went into the studio. This first single, “The Tent” is the first song we ever wrote, so it felt right to release it first. It’s coming off our 6 song EP coming out in the summer of this year. We have a handful of shows coming up, including our music video and single release show for “The Tent” at Mortimer’s in Minneapolis March 16th as part of the Low Rats March Residency.’

Erik’s Iridescent Tent has a unique sound with heavy psych rock combined with classic psychedelic influence. They take on some aspects of shoegaze, punk rock and sometimes there is a sense of art rock and free experimentation.
