Sex Blender The Second Coming is a deeply mesmerizing psychedelic rock album with heavy psych, prog and a fair serving of kraut rock and space rock. The music has peaks and valleys but always keeps a deep dirty bass and steady drumming. The guitars, synth, modular units, and other key boards play auditory illusions with new innovative sounds. This is easily a contender for best psych album of the year.
The album becomes very electronic with the synths and heavily effect guitars taking the led in the journey toward new tones. The song structures are equally twisted with both long and short tracks. The transitions between sections are very interesting as they will take a stoner drudge riff and unfurl it into post rock prog. Its a wonderful metamorphosis.
Sex Blender is joining the movement of psych bands that will explore many sub-genres in a single album. Sex Blender brings its signature sounds to each track and it never sounds like a diversion from their core message. The steady grooving bass and motorik beat bring it all together. This kraut rock formula has been a success for band improvising and exploring experimental rock for decades. Sex Blender has managed to yet again make a new color to add to the kraut and psych rock palette. The album is difficult to describe because of how they change from one style to another.
The Second Coming delights in the subalties as much as the bold tones. The band clearly listens very closely to what the other members are doing and merges their tones together for a wicked overall effect. Their music brings in a trace with the grooving beat and digs into space rock grooves at half speed with snyth and twinkling lights above the bottom end.
Sex Blender The Second Coming is the second album from this Ukrainian band. Their first album Harmonizer was also released on Drone Rock Records. I know very little about the band but once I heard this music I knew I had to write about it.
