SLIFT UMMON is an epic psychedelic stoner rock journey. UMMON is the best album yet from French psych rockers SLIFT and one of my favorite albums of 2020. The music gets heavy as well as spacing out with some juicy extended jams.
The album seem to tell a story about the delivery of fire from the night or a higher universe or something like that. The awesome vintage artwork captures the 1970’s stoner sci-fi storytelling nerdisms which influenced this album and ties it back to the old days of Heavy Metal Comics; the artwork is done by artist CAZA.
SLIFT UMMON was released on Stolen Body Records in March of 2020.
SLIFT is from Toulouse and they released their first EP Space Is The Key in 2017 followed the same year with Sword EP self-released. The following year La Planète Inexplorée their first full length released and distributed by several record Labels and was one of my best album of 2018 list!
SLIFT has outstanding live performances and has played many of the amazing psychedelic rock festivals in Europe and done extended touring outside of France but never to the USA. They should really come to San Francisco! : ) Below is the live performance for KEXP which is a great example of the live energy up out by this band.
UMMON feels like a true exhibition of how exciting this band really is. Although mostly unknown their appearance on KEXP has introduced the world to the new wave of psychedelic rock through SLIFT one of the most awesome new wave psychedelic bands out there.
I know little of how this album, UMMON came to be or what the true inspirations are however the inner record sleeve states “This music was composed during long drives in the Kangoo and at the legendary Roubichou City along the year 2019.”
SLIFT is a three piece band with Jean Fossat appearing on guitar, vocals, synth and anvil; Remi Fossat on bass and Canek Flores on drums. The album is produced by Jean Fossat & Oliver Cussac.
