OM BBC Radio I
8/10 OM live laying down mystical chill stoner rock grooves with a world wide influences
OM BBC Radio I is a live album recorded in May of 2019. They play songs from Advaitic Songs and God Is Good. The meditative pieces with the ripping fuzz loaded “State of Non-Return” featuring the symbolist lyrics and vocals of Al Cisneros. The audio is pristine, clear beautiful and sounds more like a studio recording than a live session.
Al Cisneros has a definitive bass tone and style which has permeated the stoner rock, and doom scene. His bass playing is so iconic that Rickenbacker designed a custom model for him and it is the top of the line offering from the company. That bass is beautiful and in full glory on this album.
OM is the solo project of Al Cisneros of the legendary stoner rock band Sleep. Originally the band was a duo with Al Cisneros on bass and Chris Hakius on drums both were original members of Sleep. Today the line up has changed with Al Cisneros, Emil Amos and Tyler Trotter. The original releases back in 2005 to 2008 were true to the stoner rock doom of the Sleep regime but later albums would feature the same magnificent approach to rhythm but using clean tones and world instrumentation for a stoner rock sound that seems to have a hint of traditionalism and mystical musings.
OM‘s last album was released in 2012 and this BBC Radio I is an excellent reminder of how innovative and talented this band is. Released on Drag City Records on 2LP black and green transparent vinyl 10″ at 33 1/2 RPM. Limited to 1000 copies.
