A Place to Bury Strangers (APTBS) – Hologram – Yes It’s Crazy Cool!

A Place to Bury Strangers (APTBS) Hologram

A Place to Bury Strangers APTBS Hologram was released on July 16th 2021. I would highly recommend buying it from the source however the vinyl is totally sold out as far as I can tell.

A Place to Bury Strangers (APTBS) Hologram

A Place to Bury Strangers APTBS Hologram is a ripping dirty noisey rock album. The grinding fuzz tones slapping echo and driven sound embraces their past while evolving into the future. Wild textured distortion on the instruments is matched with a desire for noise and over the top effects. The vocals are echoing and have a vintage compressed feel and settle in the foreground.

Hologram takes contemporary rock sounds from the psych scene and spins it with uniqe tones and effects. the songs border on catchy with their vocal lines however the overall appraoch to the insruments is innovative. They are able to capture a sound that embraces each decade of music with 80s 90s and contemporary rock music.

“In My Hive” takes the guitars and manipulates the sounds waves to an extreme launching them into an otherworldly tone that is warm, smooth yet spiraling out of control. This innovative use of effects is to be expected as the band leader oliver is the foudners of Death by Audio Effects pedals, a company that makes a variety of outrageous effects that are not for the faint of heart.

This album is one of my favorites from the band. The mix and balance of their distortion and effects is highly listenable despite going over the edge and out of the box. There is a warmth to the tones and high quality to the overall production. The band is not reaching for pristine clear sound but instead embraces compressed fuzzy and reverberating tones that have led some to define them as shoegaze. For my money shoegaze is just one aspect of their sound the band integrates in 80s new wave, 90 grunge and contemporary psychedelic and experimental rock.

There is an element of ballad-like 80s music on this album that fits neatly into their sound. This vocal forward music helps bring the compositions together in a way that allows the instrumentation to explore their spun-out fantasies of a new sound. This band is very good and they tend to stay on the edges of musical awareness but this album seems to point the group in a new direction that could easily generate much more fanfare beyond their cult of followers.

About The Psych Rock

The Psych Rock is a page dedicated to underground music that rocks, folks, dooms and drones. I am always writing about bands that get much less attention then their level of skill or creativity deserves. I find these bands or they find me and we work together to get the word out about their music. This is an act of charity on my part but selfishly it helps me keep all my favorite new albums compiled in one spot because sometimes the record shelf is a bit too expansive to remember which of my latest buys I should listen to.

If you would like to reach me to introduce your band head to the contact section and send me a message. I acknowledge that it has been a little quite around The Psych Rock the last month or so but I am looking to get back into the saddle and continue with regular updates. That said I received many emails from many bands and labels during that time and I apologize for not having time to dive into your correspondences.

If you would like to support the efforts here send me physical copies of your music or buy music from my band Black Satori (links Below) or share my reviews on social media. Pro Tip to avoid ads use brave browser its one of the best browsers anyway so might as well.
