Urtidsjur 8 / 10 Mythical Folk Rock New Artist

Urtidsjur Self-Titled was released on November 26th 2020 on Som Sverker Recordings.

8 / 10 Mythical Folk Rock

Urtidsjur Self-Titled is a classic folk rock album with acoustic and overdriven guitars and soothing folk styled harmonized vocals. The songs feel epic and ancient evoking their Scandinavian roots. The aire of mythical magic and calming vibes are very organic. The slide guitar is beautiful and the lead guitar parts echo with the mysteries of nature. The vocals are in Swedish giving it a unique vibe.

Urtidsjur was founded in 2017 and the summer of 2019 they recorded their debut self-titled album in a small chapel in the country side of Uppland, Sweden. The band had many plans for the album release which were cancelled due to covid-19. They persevered and resolved to film a video, edit the music and to create their own album art.

Urtidsjur Self-Titled is a great debut album with strong traditional classic folk rock vocals and sweet guitar tones. This album is a classic rock experience that is not to be missed. The guitars have beautiful tones that echo the incredible sounds from the 1970’s folk movement with sounds that remind me of bands like Trad Gras Och Stenar, Fairport Convention, Forest, and the warm driven electric guitar tones of The Pentangle.

The album is well produced with clear vocal harmonies, forward acoustic and electric guitars, a great mix and master. The band went through many challenges having the album released because it was planned to come out a month after the shelter in place lock down in Europe. This caused them to need a new label for publishing and distribution. The band pushed through and took a stronger hand in the final layout and design of the album with a hand silk screened cover and back art. The final product feel very special with the hand made silk screen and the woody tones on the album.
