Spiral Galaxy

8 / 10 Kosmische space rock

Spiral Galaxy is out with a new album featuring collaborations with Kawabata Makoto, Jean-Hervé of Faust, Alisha Sufit of Magic Carpet and Ryley Walker. The sounds is deep space weirdness in the vein of 1970s Kosmiche and Krautrock.

Spiral Galaxy is brought to you by Cardinal Fuzz (EU), Lion Productions and Light In The Attic (USA) June 19th 2020.

On Spiral Galaxy has vintage tones with the contemporary drive and experimentalism. It is easy to listening and moves into deeper and deeper states of forward propelled cosmic acid folk rock and kosmische.

The music is free form improvisational and the musicians merge together in sonic bliss. The song “Machine D” has the feel of an Indian raga with flute and echoing psychedelic guitars cleanly rippling across the sky, overall a relaxing song with tension and a subtle beat machine drive.

The opening track to Spiral Galaxy is kosmische in true 1970s form its a joy to behold! In fact the whole album is a beautiful evolution of kosmische that stay close to the original inspirations of the 1970s. The music moves away from those foundations and has built a subtle complexity with-in the breathing and shifting instrumentation.

Kosmische is the German word for 1970s early synthesizer based analogue ‘space rock’ with bands like Tangerine Dream, Ash Ra Tempel. Kosmische helps to define early ambient long form synth rock fusion experiments from the contemporary definition of space rock which is generally linked to heavy psych bands that include heavy influence from the early kosmische music fused with contemporary heavy psychedelic rock.

Basically space rock has meant different things over time and the old version is more ambient and less rock generally and I call it kosmisch.

Awesome album for chilling and watching the walls breath.
