The Janitors – Noisolation Sessions Vol. 1 – Industrial Goth Heavy Psych Rock

The Janitors – Noisolation Sessions Vol. 1

8.2 / 10 Industrial Goth Heavy Psych Rock

The Janitors – Noisolation Sessions Vol. 1 set for release on November 13th on Cardinal Fuzz and Little Cloud Records on blue vinyl limited to 400 copies and CD.

The Janitors – Noisolation Sessions Vol. 1 is heavy goth rock with industrial and new wave influences. The baritone vocals are strong and forward in the mix. The guitars are buzz-saw distortion with industrial rock style. The music is dark, heavy, and layered in textured distortion. The Janitors normally display music that is more experimental and noisy. This album sees them working in a mode that is more song oriented with simple beats, steady grinding bass saturated in distortion with industrial guitars. The songs are powerful and integrate in goth rock from the new wave movement, 90s industrial rock and contemporary heavy psychedelic rock. The music is comparable to Joy Division, The Black Angels, early NIN, The Swans.

The Janitors are from Stockholm, Sweden and Noisolation Sessions Vol. 1 is their 5th album. Their path through the music industry has been unique releasing their first music in 2004 and then not releasing anything until 2010. In the past few years The Janitors have become heady heavy psych lovers favorites with sophisticated drone and fuzz rock.

The Janitors – Noisolation Sessions Vol. 1 was inspired by the process of recording and releasing a cover of Joy Division’s song ‘Isolation.’. The covered single caught peoples attention and The Janitors were inspired to create this improvised album based around that song. This lead to the new wave industrial approach and the baritone vocals. ‘Isolation’ is a great song for the times because of the isolated conditions that 2020 and 2021 are presenting. The whole world seems to be in isolation and there are many big emotions and dark moods circulating the consciousness.

The Janitors – Noisolation Sessions Vol. 1 has 6 songs 5 originals and one cover all ranging from 7 to 10 minutes in length.

The Janitors had an album written and ready to record but then Covid-19 struck like a kick to the genitals and the arranged recording was placed on hold. Instead they decided to make recordings of their own based around the sound of the cover they did for Joy Division‘s ‘Isolation’.

The session for Noisolation Sessions Vol. 1 was improvisational and pulled together very quickly. This was a significant deviation from their regular writing process. The band found it challenging to allow the music to be so raw as they normally comb through the compositions and reach for perfection. This album has The Janitors going with their first instincts and trying new ideas and song writing methods. The improvisational method makes for imperfections and gives the music a live performance feel which really works.

The album is labeled Vol. 1 because of the strong possibility that they will release more than one of these homemade albums before they can safely return to a traditional recording studio and production process.

The Janitors – Noisolation Sessions Vol. 1 is a great album with Gothic rock that is a good fit for the times we are in. The heavy moods, melancholic yet firm and pushy vocals that seem to suggest a ‘do not fuck with me’ attitude. The guitar and bass tones are rich textured distortion, tremolo, and fuzz that sound wonderful. Noisolation Sessions Vol. 1 has a lot of great aspects about it and is a hard hitting powerful raw rock album.
