Helicon Fuzz Club Session is the latest release and one of their first live albums. Helicon released This Can Only Lead to Chaos in 2020 and it was one of the best psych rock albums of the year. Now this live follow-up will be a welcome treat for fans and also is a great starting point for folk unfamiliar with the band.
Helicon Fuzz Club Session has diverse instrumentation that includes piano guitar and sitar. The band gives a precise and wonderful performance that is beautiful atmospheric and heavy. The set has great variety incredible guitar tones, driven synth and distorted bass. Most of the songs are guided by a motorik beat and dark atmospheres.
Helicon Fuzz Club Session is mostly instrumental with a few track that have vocals. the vocals are distant with layers of reverb and echo. They get really cool tremolo sounds that are way far out. The synth soars and bubbles driving the music into heavy space rock sounds. There is literally nothing about the album that is disagreeable. Its a great live performance from a band that is quickly being seen as one of the premiere space and heavy psych bands from the UK.
Helicon Fuzz Club Session has a sitar track that gives it a world music feel. Helicon goes there and back bringing in the sounds of the psychedelic 60s and blending it with contemporary heavy psych and space rock. For me this is one of the best Fuzz Club Live Sessions albums yet and is a must hear. I may even like it better them their studio albums which have been superb.
