Earthless is one of the most exciting heavy rock bands out there with long instrumental tracks driven by a infallible rhythm section with Mario Rubalcaba, Mike Eginton and the unstoppable guitar leads of Isaiah Mitchell. This album sees the band playing their longest song to date broken into two parts to fit an Vinyl record. The song ‘Night Parade Of One Hundred Demons pt.1 and 2‘ totals over 40 minutes in length followed by ‘Death To The Red Sun’ clocking in at 20 minutes.
This album has the band expanding their wings and exploring the long form heavy psychedelic rock. The album begins with a clean guitar swirling and shimmering into the night sky. That line loops with a lead guitar coming in over top giving the introduction a Pink Floyd feel. The drums and bass don’t enter the scene until the 7 minute mark, this is when the Parade of Demons is unleashed. They rip into fast heavy riffage and guitar solos that span the rest of the track.
This album is reminiscent of Earthless’ early track ‘Sonic Prayer’ but evolved for the contemporary times and increased skill of the musicians. Night Parade of One Hundred Demons has the band in a psychedelic mood with their Sabbath and stoner doom influence is there front and center. They blast off with very fast very hot guitar solos driven by fast aggressive bass lines and complex steady drumming.
Earthless is a premiere heavy metal band in the underground stoner and acid rock scene with a band that is always going to impress. The infusion of kruat and psychedelic into their sound is awesome. It brings a sense of space rock doom into their guitar driven assault. Isaiah Mitchell demonstrates why he is so well known as a guitar player with endless impressive playing that is highly skilled and never takes its foot off the gas. Even the more laid back portions of the album are focused and guitar driven showing a player who embraces exuberance and nuance. He is not afraid to let his echo spiral out of control into experimental oscillations.
Night Parade Of One Hundred Demons is the fifth studio album from the band. They have released many many live albums and have defined themselves as a band that is not to be missed live. Their precision and drive toward improvisation makes for live performances that are inspired and unique. They released their first album in 2004 titled ‘Sonic Prayer’ and have been going strong touring and releasing live and studio albums every since.
