Acid Mothers Temple & Infinity Rising Zero- Free Your Infinity Desire / Perhaps – Mad Smiles 12″ Split
Acid Mothers Temple & Infinity Rising Zero- Free Your Infinity Desire / Perhaps – Mad Smiles 12″ Split. As you may imagine from the title of the album this is a stream of consciousness run on sentence baked using experimental kraut and psychedelic rock that digs into the noisy side of the moon done in a way only Acid Mothers can do. Perhaps is Jim Haney with an easier to digest melting krautrock sound that twirls and bubbles with jamming grooves and science fiction synth. All together this album is pure madness, music for the few, the bold, the beautiful and the lovers of new and innovative sounds. There is nothing immature or amateur on this split the music is sonic art. It is challenging, progressive, and reaches into the mysterious voids and veils hidden in space-time experiences.
The A side is one long track from Acid Mothers Temple‘s entourage of wizardly, wild and way-out-there individuals. This time around drummer Satoshima Nani has songwriting credits and Pika performed and created the vocals, alien vocal noises, and lyrics. Free Your Infinity Desire is intense with a stunning guitar performance, fast nuanced drumming and electronic music. This track is nearly masochistic with striking experimentation and free exploration of a wide spectrum of frequencies.
Kawabata Makoto is a supremely interesting and inspired guitarist and has become a legend of underground rock music in Japan. This album combines his heavier tendencies. He plays with intensity and a sense progressive freakout rock throughout with progressive tonalities and rhythms. Hagashi Hiroshi works the synth, UFO sound samples and sequencing. The end of the song has layered synths and feels electronic. Makoto rips into the scene with gushing, oozing, running guitar lines with off kilter rhythms and style. Makes me wonder how much writing was done by Nani and if he had a hand in some of the programming for the song in terms of beat machines and sequencers. Who was playing the various sequences, drum machines, and layers of synth.
Acid Mothers Temple & Infinity Rising Zero- Free Your Infinity Desire is one of the most electronic driven songs from AMT. The presence of the keyboards, synth and sequencers is very cool and the guitar still leads the charge with jazz and progressive experimental acid rock swagger that is packed is heavy drive. Although its scary at first and your pets might get upset, this album is super cool and very far-out.
Perhaps – Mad Smiles is related to the sound from AMT but takes a stronger vintage krautrock kosmische soundscape approach. Layers of instruments come together creating a stimulating environment that is creative and unique. The song spans the whole B side of the disc providing a lengthy journey into a new sound that feels like dreams, exoplanets and warm afternoons. The sustained guitar tones repeat and echo with warm juicy tones and long sustain. The keyboards blend nicely with the lead guitars. The rhythm guitar sounds like it could be a strummed acoustic. The percussion certainly has some samples and live drums. The overall vibe is saucy, sci-fi and psychedelic.
