Lammping Flashjacks
Lammping Flashjacks is packed with stoner rock that is melodic and can be fairly chill. They forged their own path through the stoner rock and psych genres making an album and a sound that is all their own. They integrate 70s rock, psychedelic rock and stoner rock together. The instrumentation is well played and enjoyable with clear tones, fuzz and steady vocals.
Lammping is from Toronto, Canada and released their first album Bad Boys Of Comedy on Nasoni Records in July of 2020. This underground album quickly caught acclaim from the heads who discovered this album.This debut has heavy tones and 70s rock sounds similar to this latest release. The follow-up EP New Jaws found the band expanding their horizons with refined riffs and sassy swagger. The Wah Wah guitar sounds come through hinting at funk tones while styling organ like and vintage. They touch on a few psyched out progressive ideas on New Jaws. Interestingly this EP was never released on physical media and Flashjacks has all of the tracks from New Jaws EP and several new songs as well. This awesome music is now available on colored vinyl from Echodelick Records pre-sale is on now. Be sure the support bands and labels.
FlashJacks has more complex arrangements with a variety of tones and instruments. Their drive, controlled tension and skill in compelling compositions is in a more refined form. They have found a stronger vocal element on Flashjacks and brought in more uplifting themes into the compositions and have a strong orientation toward desert rock stoner grooves. The music is guitar forward with steady riff rhythm lines with sections of heavy reverb, echo effects and guitar solos that throw in progressive flavors. The riffage laid down by Mikhail Galkin often leans toward heavy blues with a Black Sabbath mentality or a progressive jamming psychedelic rock sound.
Lammping Flashjacks has a interesting instrumental arrangements with samples, organs, keyboards, synth, drum machines, live drums, guitars and bass operating in both clean and distorted tones. The steady drumming of Jay Anderson is in the stoner rock style with hard hit steady drumming. The bass lines bump along with tight punchy tones that are sometimes clean and other times distorted with a heavy stoner rock growl.
Lammping Flashjacks balances a variety of sounds together. The album is less heavy then their previous releases and focuses more on psychedelic verse / chorus, beachy strolls and 70s rock. The steady vocals give the songs a lot of charm with a Sleep like rhythmic cadence but more melodic. The albums lyrics are themed around life in the city with urban paranoia, dystopian suggestions and lighter themes of sunlit days walking through the city streets t finding a sense of freedom.
Lammping Flashjacks has a good variety of music and has great tones and sounds awesome with good recordings and quality production. The overall vibe of the album is engaging and hold interest throughout. The music feels well considered and is packed with subtleties that can reveal themselves upon repeated listens. The band excels with music that captures the stoner rock sounds with clearer tones and a 70s vintage rock sounds and progressive decisions. The arc of the album goes from psychedelic rock to laid back. They do this is a way that is different from other bands in the genre. The movement from bohemian rumble to fuzzy stoned grooves has an infectious style that draws the listener in.
