King Buffalo The Burden of Restlessness
King Buffalo The Burden of Restlessness was released on June 4th 2021 available on vinyl and CD.
King Buffalo The Burden of Restlessness
King Buffalo The Burden of Restlessness is a heavy progressive space rock album with rhythmically complex arrangements and heavy metal ethos. The instrumentation is tight and uses punchy riffage, spacey echo and plenty of distortion. The vocals are in classic heavy rock style with a pushed style with punctuated attack. The album is highly cohesive and has a highly produced tone that is mixed and mastered with precision.
King Buffalo The Burden of Restlessness is the first of three schedule full-length releases planned in 2021. The band records, produces and releases their own music and have been at work on the next albums since early 2020. The lock down must have opened time for the band to write and record.
King Buffalo The Burden of Restlessness is the darkest album yet for the band and uses heavy cutting riffs and dark personal lyrics. The album spends less time in creative effects and stellar atmospheres and focuses on heavy riffs executed with impeccable timing. The shift to raw guitar tones with slamming drums and deep driving bass lines makes for the most progressive sound in their catalogue. Many of the riffs have expert timings and difficult rhythmic changes that bring to mind bands like Tool and Meshuggah.
King Buffalo of Rochester, New York have been releasing music since 2013 when they put out their first demos. The 2020 release Dead Star was spectacular and led the band to international tours. King Buffalo has been generating hype since their first official full length Orion. They take the show on the road leaving a wake of new fans and positive reviews. 2021 and 2022 are promised to be the biggest years yet with tours and 3 albums being released in 2021. Compared to Dead Star, The Burden of Restlessness has less space rock and more heavy progressive themes. Dead Star has the band exploring a variety of sonic spaces and textures where as this latest album is focused on complex rhythms and tight execution. Dead Star is for the heavy psychedelic space rock enthusiast and was one of the best albums of 2020. The Burden of Restlessness has a classic progressive metal sound that is impressive and has wide appeal.
King Buffalo The Burden of Restlessness is a great addition to their lexicon and takes their sound into a new direction while staying true to their established style. They lay down fast powerful songs that include progressive psychedelic guitar solos. The album has a dark heavy sound combined with dark lyrics about depression and restlessness. The lyrics are descriptive and articulate with a strong vocabulary including wonderful words like sycophant, pestilence, festering, myopia, promenade and more.
King Buffalo has released an awesome album with impressive sound and heavy songs. They allow the fast, precise punchy riffs to lend the music its heavy metal feel. The drums hit hard, the bass is complex and deep with strong attack and short sustain. The album is moody and consistent in tone. The album is well done, sounds great, has powerful slow burn feel with-in a fast complex structure. The album is great and highly recommenced.
Be sure to catch them on their upcoming tour and buy their stuff! : )
