Portuguese Psychecelia is an outstanding compilation of Portuguese psychedelic rock bands from the last two decades. The music includes psych rock, heavy experimental psych, garage rock, 60s vibes and a wonderful collection of psych folk. The bands 10,000 Russos, Black Bombain, ASIMOV and Cosmic Mass are included amongst the 19 artists on the album.
Portuguese Psychecelia every song on this comp is very good and it includes many bands that have limited visibility. The compilation is bringing a spotlight to the revival of the psychedelic rock spirit of the 60s and 70s. Psychedelic rock has always been linked to an expression of freedom originally in response to oppressive political situations. In Portugal, psychedelic music gained traction in the late 60s and 70s following in the footsteps of the movement in the USA, UK and world-wide. The psychedelic revolution in music was inspired by questioning societal norms, free creative expression and embracing new sound design technology. The 60s and 70s introduced electric guitar effects and synthesizers to the mainstream. Jimi Hendrix famously used fuzz pedals, reverse echo, delay, heavy reverbs, phasers, filter sweeping wah pedals, feedback and new recording techniques to revolution the sound of the guitar. Sound technology has evolved greatly since then but artists in the psych scene are still chasing vintage tones while integrating new cutting edge sound design. The ethos of the genre is to make music that is in its purist form in live music settings where the audience and band are in a shared consciousness and the music can be improvised to ride the feel of the space.
Portuguese Psychecelia cannot be more enjoyable. These bands are relatively unknown but the music is incredible. The cohesiveness between these various bands is remarkable considering there is a 20 year spread between original release dates of these songs. Echoing vocals, reverb and delayed guitars, richly layered sonic textures and atmosphere backdrops stretch across the album. There are whaling guitars that blast off into space, vintage retro sun bleached tones with melodic vocals, brooding dark echoing songs and gentle atmospheric acid folk.
Portuguese Psychecelia‘s highlights are 10,000 Russos dark psych, Noel V. Harmonson with far-out heavy space rock with fast drumming and wild guitar solos, Alex Rein with ‘Spirit of Man’ has a vintage sunshine feel with uplifting music.

The Psych Rock is here to promote awesome underground music that is wildly creative. The page is a one person operation and I want to thank everyone who has helped keep me motivated with your great music and awesome promos. I have been writing a new album for my psychedelic rock band Black Satori, we have some exciting news coming soon! I finished up a home recorded full-length solo album and I am determining how to release it to the world. Its a folk rock album with some psychedelic vibes. My other solo albums can be found under Temple Rose. I have been writing for POWmagazine.org which has been a delight. I am finding new hobbies and looking for more work as well. So it has been difficult to keep up but I appreciate all your support!
