Los Palms
Los Palms is a surfy garage rock outfit from South Australia. They have surfy jangling guitars, simple vocal melodies and splashy reverb. The songs are catchy and feel good. They bring to mind many Los Angeles bands like Allah-Las, Beach Fossils, Mystic Braves but without that LA pretension and stronger positive feels.
Los Palms is an awesome band that has great verse chorus beach psyche songs with a hint of 60s retro garage rock. If you follow The Psych Rock you know I love bands from Australia because the scene there is producing tones of great music and all of it has a light hearted positive feeling and Los Palms in no exception.
Los Palms finds their stride in vintage understated guitar effects like spring reverb and tremolo. The bright high end on the guitars is vintage toned and perfect for their sound. The melodies are clear and done with a monotoned baritone voice. The music sounds like it could be at home in the early 70s or late 60s mixed with alternative sounds from the 90s and the beach surf indie rock of today.
Los Palms sounds awesome and this initial offering suggests that they will have a bright future and I know I will be on the watch for what comes next from this young and talented band. A big highlight on the album is the guitars the reverb and bendy guitar leads are very cool. The overall tonality is retro and sounds great with that underground garage sound.
My favorite track is ‘Junkie Hotel’ the guitar melody hits just right.
