Psychedelic Sangha (Prana Crafter) – Sounds From The Bardo Vol. I “Born In The Kali Yuga”
Psychedelic Sangha (Prana Crafter) – Sounds From The Bardo Vol. I “Born In The Kali Yuga” is a meditation album with electronic psychedelic kosmische sound-bath. It features William Sol psych-folk-kosmische musician in Prana Crafter, Psychedelic writer Erik Davis and visual artist Aubrey Nehring.
Psychedelic Sangha (Prana Crafter) – Sounds From The Bardo Vol. I “Born In The Kali Yuga” is relaxing and spaced out with otherworldly sounds. There is no percussion just echoing guitars, droning synth and calming psych-soundscapes. The spoken word mediation from Erik Davis starts and ends the album with the majority of time dedicated to the beautiful music of William Sol (Prana Crafter).
The spoken word meditation encourages the listener to dive inward and to go on a shamanic journey into a forest where you are safe to launch and explore the subtle energies to be present.
Erik Davis is a writer and psychedelic cultural figure residing in San Francisco. He has written several books the latest is High Weirdness. Davis is a unique and clear voice in the psychedelic literature and he is also a rebel who follows his own pathway. He opens discussions into the mystical, conspiracy, and cultural analysis of the psychedelic movement. He leads a class in San Francisco called The Psychedelic Sangha where people could sign up to practice meditation, have discourse and performance happenings. This album is a outcropping of these efforts.
Psychedelic Sangha (Prana Crafter) – Sounds From The Bardo Vol. I “Born In The Kali Yuga” is described by Erik Davis as “feral sound-baths, inspired by Leary and The Psychedelic Experience, which wove vajra meditations into improvised sound-and-light shows.”
Leary is referring the LSD advocate and psychedelic researcher Timothy Leary who helped ignite the psychedelic revolution in the 1960s. His classic book The Psychedelic Experience was a psychedelic trip guide based on the traditional sacred text The Tibetan Book of The Dead.
Psychedelic Sangha (Prana Crafter) – Sounds From The Bardo Vol. I “Born In The Kali Yuga” visualizations from Aubrey Nehring is a moving tapestry the lopped repeating optical lines slowly growing and shrinking. They appear to represent sound vibration like ripples on the water. The visuals enhance the vast spaciousness of the music and make a beautiful visual for the moments when we crack open our eyes.
This album should come with instructions and I suppose the opening spoke word supplies the needed intro. Basically the album is set to be a free meditation where you close your eyes and are transported to another space. The music is psychedelic enough to be a companion to extraordinary states of consciousness and to guide you. The visuals help keep the listener in the experience when they crack open their eyes. Instead of being drawn into the room you gaze into the visuals and continue to go back in. Each person will have their own approach and their own experience but the intention is a sound bath a chance to unwind and ride the waves of vibration.
