Automatism Immersion
7.5 / 10 Smooth Instrumental Space Rock
Automatism Immersion released October 9th 2020 on Tonzonen Records.
Automatism Immersion is an instrumental psychedelic rock album with soothing cosmic acid improvisations. The guitars are overdriven with reverb and echo and the tones are smooth with clarity and balance. The bass and drums are locked-in with tight hypnotic rhythms. Every song clocks in over 7 minutes giving space for the space rituals to grow and evolve.
Automatism is from Stockholm, Sweden their debut album From The Lake was released in 2018 and the follow-up The Sea released earlier this year (2020). Immersion is their third album and continues the study of “effortless improvisation” in the studio with overdubs. Immersion has guest musicians including Jakob Sjöhold of the legendary Träd Gräs Och Stenar.
Immersion has very talented musicianship and subtleties that can only be found in players with great depth of experience. Automatism’s ability to create music at this level live in studio is impressive. The music feels very intentional and the telepathic communication among band members is something many musicians aspire to. The performers have both rock and jazz in their musical backgrounds leading to music that does not fall into repetitive scales. The album is certainly rock and psych forward.
Automatism Immersion has wonderful tones and is surprisingly chill considering the experimental nature of the music and the rock based sounds. Immersion is both astral drift and acid rock making it an album for chilling out with UFOs.
