OSees Protean Threat
8.5 / 10 Fuzz Rock
Osees Protean Threat was released on September 18th 2020 on Castle Face Records.
Osees Protean Threat is the 23rd album from OSees and is a unique addition to the lexicon. It’s fuzzed out garage rock with prog-punk tenancies. The blazing guitar and vocals of John Dwyer are as good as ever with two drummers, synth and keys, and driving bass for a full complex sound.
Osees Protean Threat sees the dual drummers finding their groove and the keyboards becoming an integral part of the production. The guitars and keys work in harmony for dense harmonic riffs and atmospheric sections. The vocals are able to cut through the mix more so then in previous releases.
Protean Threat has sections which are hard hitting heavy fuzz and fast as well as sections that are less intense. The Synth seems to have found its home with-in the writing process and adds depth to the music. The arrangements take on a little flavor of a futuristic jazz but not overtly so. I say this because of the complex rhythms between the two drummers and the complex harmonic structure of the songs give it a progressive edge.
Osees Protean Threat is another awesome album from Osees former known as Oh Sees and Thee Oh Sees.
