White Manna ARC is a far-out album taking their psychedelic rock sound in new progressive directions stepping back from the raw guitar based sounds of the early albums to krautrock and kosmische inspired jams. The music is more chill then their previous efforts and in these more subtle realms of sound they found ornate jewels of inspiration. The shifting filtered soundscapes defy conventions and create abstract sounds grounded in psychedelic rock music.
White Manna is from Humbolt County in northern California USA. They released their first self titled album in 2012 on Holy Mountain. 2019 saw the release of the incredible album Ape On Sunday from Cardinal Fuzz.
White Manna has had a heavy stoner psychedelic rock sound from the start with raw forward guitars and blazing compositions. Ape On Sunday took this raw sound and explored deeper investigations in to abstract improvisational music with moments of more subtle electronics with a kosmische krautrock feel.
ARC reaches new heights of experimentation with passages of meditative electronic sound with repeating guitars making overtones. A new corner is turned and the results are stunning. White Manna has created a new language to express themselves and redefined their sound. They have never been a band that sounds like other musicians and have taken their sound into less known realms.
This new album has many historical touch points early Tangerine Dream with the farout electronics but with a motorik beat. There is a vintage tone to the album similar to early krautrock recordings with brazen experimentation, warm analogue tonality and free in the moment approach to songwriting.
