Moon Duo Escape is being reissued in colored vinyl and deluxe packaging. This early Moon Duo album was recorded in 2009 released on Woodist Records in 2010. It was recorded in their practice space in San Francisco. The album is filled with fresh creative energy and wild psychedelic improvised rock that foreshadows the future sounds to come. The 3 additional bonus tracks are up beat and energized and can make me dance.
Escape Expanded Edition includes 3 new tracks from that time period
“A Little Way Different” taken from the Welcome Home: Diggin’ the Universe comp on Woodsist and “Catch As Catch Can” and “Set It On Fire” taken from a 2010 7-inch on Agitated Records.
Escape Expanded Edition has long winding solos and droning rhythm and synth. The songs are upbeat and at times heavy with layer of fuzz. The two piece set-up with Ripley Johnson and Sanae Yamada is in its early phase of coalescence and there are brilliant guitar solos and expressive moments of divine rock freedom.
Escape is four songs with blazing guitars, long instrumental passages and a freedom that can only be found in new bands bursting with potential. Ripley Johnson was just coming off the first albums from Wooden Shjips (self-titled 2007 and Dos 2009) when Moon Duo released a Escape. Stripped down two piece band with a beat machine drummer. Moon Duo feel like a free open pasture for experimentation where as Wooden Shjips was a larger band and played music which was song oriented.
