Vibravoid Politics of Ecstacy (2018 Reissue)
9.5 / 10
Vibravoid is celebrating the 10th anniversary of Politics Of Ecstacy with a deluxe reissue LP; one version contains a lava lamp! Vibravoid has a 1960’s garage rock sound with early Pink Floyd organ tones to blow your mind. Vibravoid is one of the most exciting and interesting psychedelic bands in the world. They have claimed their sound with no apologies and are expanding the possibilities of the genre through groundbreaking song writing and live performances.
The album contain the single “Doris Delay” a fun spacey song with plenty of delay and lyric referencing psychedelics. The chorus is catchy and filled with quirky noises and effects. “Playing With Beuys” a staple in Vibravoid live performances with seductive lyrics, “She’s a freak on a leash.. she’s looking so fine how I wish she was mine!” It also has “Your Mind Is At Ease” which is a collosial space jam running 20 minutes of pure ecstacy. This incredible song was recntly released on Live at Rheinkraut Festival 2018 spanning nearly 90 minutes!
The album as a whole oscillates between long form space rock jams and short psychedelic pop songs. It includes my favorite cover of the psychedelic classic “Peppermint and Incense” by Strawberry Alarm Clock.
Vibravoid excels at all music which is raw, layered in effects, and authentically psychedelic drawing their sounds primarily from the foundations of the psychedelic pop music from the 1960’s blended with the krautrock improvisations of the early 1970’s.
Vibravoid are purist in the psychedelic genre and are not afraid to improvise using all the flavorings of space rock and avant-garde rock. They excels at all music which is raw, layered in effects, and authentically psychedelic drawing their sounds primarily from the foundations of the psychedelic pop music from the 1960’s blended with the krautrock improvisations of the early 1970’s.
This album is a great place to start for those new to Vibravoid’s many amazing albums. Many of the songs on Politics of Ecstacy are classics and have been reinterpreted / rerecorded on other albums and are performed live to this day.
