Acid Dad‘s highly anticipated full-length self-titled debut from Greenway Records in October 2018. Out of Brooklyn NY with a airy blend of punk-no-wave-psychedelic music. Acid Dad album feels honest, non-pretentious and integrates a diversity of influences while maintaining originality and a personalized style. This great album should make enough waves to propel them into a future filled with amazing music.
Acid Dad formed in Brooklyn NY in 2016 drawing together a cast of characters who grew up in the midwest. They quickly made waves in the competitive music scene with their edgy brand of no-wave-psychedelic-punk-pop. The music is refreshing, energetic and original drawing on classic musical sounds from the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s and today. They show off their songwriting ability and developed attention grabbing arrangements on each song. The music gives nods to underground bands like Velvet Underground, Temples, Black Angels as well as sprinkling indie pop appeal throughout.
The guitars are dynamic moving between lightly overdriven tones, glittery leads, and fuzzy growls. Vocal duties are shared between the two front men and guitar players. Their voices come through clearly and have attitude and definitive style with plenty of dreamy production. The interplay between the guitars and the vocal melodies are emphasized with the guitar often backing and harmonizing with the vocal melody. They create a full sound on the album which strays from conventionality while giving it full consideration making the songs sound familiar and new and innovative simultaneously.
Acid Dad’s Debut album is a gem with plenty of great music to enjoy. As a first full-length release this album is very strong and paints an exciting image for the future of this young band. This album receives an 8.5 out of 10.
